New to D2R-XL 2012? This is the short path from a fresh install to your first character. D2R-XL 2012 is Median XL 2012 by Brother Laz, ported to Diablo II: Resurrected; for what the mod is, see the Introduction.
1. Install
You need your own Diablo II: Resurrected 3.3 on Windows and D2RLoader 1.3.1. The D2R-XL 2012 Downloader installs the mod, can install D2RLoader for you, and starts the game with its Play button. Step by step: Installation.
Your D2R-XL 2012 characters have their own save folder and never touch your normal D2R characters.
2. Pick a class
Every class has new skill trees: 25 main skills, 3 uberskills and 2 challenge reward skills. The best class is the class you like the most.
3. First character tips
- Skill levels grow with you. A skill's maximum level starts at 2 and goes up by 1 every six character levels.
- The difficulties are called Hatred, Terror and Destruction (Normal, Nightmare and Hell).
- Defence matters more than in classic Diablo II, life and blocking less. Defence is ignored while you run, so press R to walk; walking is much faster in Median XL. See Block and defense.
- Resistances: have 75% in every element before Act 3 on Hatred.
- Spells grow with energy and the +% Spell Damage modifiers; weapon attacks with strength and dexterity. See Energy factor.
- Two elements are enough against regular monsters: they have at most one natural immunity.
- Runewords need a single rune: put it in a grey (nonmagical) socketed item last, after filling the other sockets with jewels. See Runewords.
- Respec: Akara's "Reset Skills and Stats" works once per difficulty, as in D2R. Median XL's own respec item, the Token of Absolution (Belladonna Extract), works at any level: cube an Oil of Absolution with any rune. See Horadric Cube.
- Harder games: type
/players Xfor tougher monsters and better rewards. See Players X.
4. Later on
- Uberquests: special bosses and levels for high level characters, with unique charms as rewards on Destruction.
- Challenges: special rewards for difficult tasks.
- Horadric Cube: Median XL's recipes, crafting and more.
- Items: the item pages.
