Port changes

From D2R-XL 2012 Wiki

D2R-XL 2012 follows Median XL 2012 v005 wherever Median XL and Diablo II: Resurrected differ: its skills, items, monsters, maps, uberquests and rules are Brother Laz's. This page sums up where the port is still different, from the original mod and from classic Diablo II. Pages where the port differs carry a D2R-XL 2012 box that says how.

From classic Diablo II to D2R

  • Graphics: the mod plays in D2R's HD graphics; G switches to the classic graphics, which draw Median XL's own art. The D2R Legacy 16:9 plugin widens the classic picture to the screen.
  • Install: a mod folder in your D2R install, run through D2RLoader, instead of replacing patch_d2.mpq. See Installation.
  • Saves: characters and stashes are saved in Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\mxl2012\, in D2RLoader's extended save format.
  • Multiplayer: D2R has no open Battle.net; multiplayer games are hosted by a player who runs the mod.
  • Windows only: there is no Mac version.

D2R features

Kept from D2R

  • The shared stash, with two more pages than D2R gives (5 in classic and expansion games, 7 in Reign of the Warlock games).
  • A second personal stash page (D2RLoader's custom page). Median XL 2012 had one page.
  • Reign of the Warlock games: the stash's Gems, Materials and Runes pages, which also take Median XL's own runes and gems. A "Send storable/stackable items to stash" button on the inventory fills them from anywhere. The small Horadric Cube window on those pages shows the cube's items (HD), and the classic graphics dim their empty slots.
  • Akara's "Reset Skills and Stats": once per difficulty, as in D2R. Median XL's Token of Absolution (Oil of Absolution + any rune in the cube) still resets at any level.
  • Kashya also hires from character level 8 without the Sisters' Burial Grounds quest, and the mercenary panel lists the mercenary's skills.
  • The loot filter, the auto gold pickup option and the Chronicle. The Chronicle tracks Median XL's uniques, set items and runewords.
  • The Warlock (Reign of the Warlock) is playable, on Median XL's rules: level cap 120, Median's experience curve, points per level and starting kit, and its skills rescaled to Median XL's power and skill rules. Lightly tested.

Removed because they clash with Median XL

  • Terror Zones and terrorized monsters.
  • D2R's new runewords, uniques, sets, Sunder Charms, cube recipes and its 2.4 item, skill and mercenary balance changes: Median XL's own tables replace them.
  • Mercenaries wearing class items.
  • D2RLoader's Ctrl "Possible base rolls" block, which repeated lines on many items (off for now).

Differences from Median XL 2012

  • No PlugY: PlugY does not exist for D2R. Its stash pages are replaced by D2R's (above); there is no stat unassign per point, no item level display and none of the other PlugY options.
  • Text: names and description lines that Median XL 2012 left without text (some monsters, objects, potions and stats) have readable text.
  • Median Statue: not always unique, because D2R does not allow it; only its name colour differs.
  • HD art: most of Median XL's new monsters, effects and items have no HD art. In HD they use the closest D2R model or effect in Median XL's colours, or Median XL's classic picture scaled up (the runes, for example). The classic graphics show Median XL's own art.
  • HD maps: Median XL's new maps use D2R's wall models in HD, and its retextured maps are lit in their own colours.

Not changed, though it may look like a bug: life and mana leech on Terror and Destruction is very small, as in Median XL 2012.

Not ported yet

  • Real HD art for Median XL's monsters, runes, items and effects (stand-ins for now). The Haunt monsters have no art of their own at all.
  • A few parts of Khalimgrad's cathedral (the tall pointed arch and the long roofed walls) in HD.
  • The gamepad stash has no page arrows and no slots for Median XL's runes and gems.
  • The Warlock's demons: their pack size still follows D2R's rule.
  • Personal stash pages beyond two: D2RLoader has one custom page.

Known bugs are listed in each release's notes.
